Allergic Living advises consumers to be aware that the FDA has issued a warning about a nationwide voluntary recall of salted dark chocolate bars. The bars may contain butter that’s not listed on the label.
Milk Allergy Warning: Theo Chocolate of Seattle, Washington is voluntarily recalling the brand’s 3 oz Sea Salt 70% Dark Chocolate bars due to a labeling error. The company says the error resulted in some of these organic bars containing butter (the FDA uses the word “milk” for all dairy products).
Milk was not declared on the ingredients label.
The affected bars were distributed to retailers across the United States between January and March 11, 2019. The lot code is 3092529 and the Best-By date is 1/2020.
Theo Chocolate says the error arose when a small number of 3oz Salted Toffee Dark Chocolate bars were packaged with labels for the Sea Salt 70% Dark Chocolate bars. The toffee bars contain butter, while the dark chocolate bars do not.
The FDA says no allergic reactions have been reported.
“As soon as this error was discovered, we took immediate action and corrected the packaging process,” said Etienne Patout, Theo Chocolate’s CEO. We believe less than 150 incorrectly packaged bars were distributed, and we are working with distributors and retailers to secure them.”
Patout added: “We are voluntarily recalling the product for the awareness and safety of our customers.”
No other Theo Chocolate product is affected. Direct questions or concerns about recall to: 866-800-2920 or email: [email protected].
